- Crash Course
In many areas of today’s scientific practice, it is crucial to document information accurately and in a machine-readable format, and to search it efficiently. This talk provides a basic introduction to two essential tools that can greatly facilitate this work: Markdown and regular expressions.
Markdown is a simple yet powerful markup language that allows you to format text quickly, efficiently, and in a machine-readable way, while maintaining readability for humans. The advantage of Markdown lies in its simplicity, broad applicability, and high transformability—whether for short notes, scientific reports, or even the publication of papers. In this course, you will learn the basic syntax of Markdown, which allows you to present text elements such as headings, lists, links, tables, and code blocks in a structured and clear manner.
The second part of the course is devoted to regular expressions. This powerful tool allows you to find specific patterns in strings of any type and manipulate them if necessary. Regular expressions are used in a wide variety of areas, from simple keyword searches to complex analysis and processing of data series. You will learn the basic syntax of regular expressions so that you can efficiently search for specific strings and automatically modify texts. Regular expressions are an indispensable tool, especially for researchers who need to analyze large amounts of data or process complex texts.
The course does not require any special prior knowledge, but is aimed at participants who already have basic computer skills and are willing to learn new tools that can make their daily work much easier.
