Introduction to research data management

16. October 2024 | 10:00 am - 11:30 am

This introductory part of the workshop series will introduce you as to how you can benefit from professional research data management throughout the entire life cycle of your research data and how you can implement good scientific practice. You will learn about the range of possibilities to make your data Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable (FAIR).

  • Basic Module

The Data management plan

30. October 2024 | 10:00 am - 11:30 am

A sound plan is half the battle! A data management plan (DMP) describes the (planned) handling of research data during and after the project. A DMP is ideally a living document that is revised or concretised as needed during the course of the project.

  • Basic Module

Data organisation and documentation

13. November 2024 | 10:00 am - 11:30 am

If you document, you get it! Do you want your data to be reused later? Do you work in a team? Is your research work likely to be interrupted in between? Whether for yourself or for others, good organisation and documentation of your research data makes work easier and increases traceability.

  • Basic Module

Archiving and publiation of research data

27. November 2024 | 10:00 am - 11:30 am

This introductory part of the workshop series will introduce you as to how you can benefit from professional research data management throughout the entire life cycle of your research data and how you can implement good scientific practice.

  • Basic Module

Legal aspects (copyright and usage rights)

11. December 2024 | 10:00 am - 11:30 am

The module will present the copyright situation regarding research data. In particular, it will address the question of how openness can be achieved when publishing research data.

  • Basic Module

Legal Aspects (Data protection)

15. January 2025 | 10:00 am - 11:30 am

Researchers are aware of legal and ethical requirements when dealing with (sensitive) personal data, but how to meet them in practice? The module provides guidance on how to proceed.

  • Add-on Module

Crash Course: Encryption

29. January 2025 | 10:00 am - 11:30 am

The presentation will show how you can store your research data more securely with an encryption program. It will also answer the question of what encryption is and how it works.

  • Add-on Module

Crash Course: Writing machine-readable documents and search them for patterns

12. February 2025 | 10:00 am - 11:30 am

In many areas of modern scientific practice, it is crucial to document information precisely and in a machine-readable format and to search through it efficiently. This lecture provides a fundamental introduction to two essential tools that can significantly ease these tasks: Markdown and Regular Expressions.

  • Add-on Module

Crash Course: Introduction to eLabFTW

26. February 2025 | 10:00 am - 11:30 am

eLabFTW is a powerful and flexible electronic lab notebook (ELN) designed to streamline the organization and documentation of scientific experiments. This introduction provides an overview of key features, such as experiment management, sample linking, and team collaboration, as well as the latest updates that make eLabFTW even more user-friendly and efficient. The session is geared towards researchers, lab managers, IT administrators, and anyone looking to implement digital tools to optimize lab workflows and manage research data effectively.
